One of four features based on the famous NBC radio show of the same name (at that time, starring Edward Pauley as "Steve", and Fran Carlon as "Lorelei"), originally released in December 1947.
Hillary Brooke was always very good. Watch her in a 1940s Sherlock Holmes movie for an even better performance.
Philip Reed ani't much of a detective or a reporter. Or an actor either. Silly slush but Brooke is always nice to look at and listen to. And they made a series, of sorts out of the Big Town!
Actually, it wasn't merely silly – it was bad. And they really gave Brooke nothing to do. A cast of idiots. Best line: Reed's when he hears the girl is still alive: "Too bad."
"Include me out!" A Yogi Bearism or Samuel Goldwynism made famous already by 1947.
Thx for this rare noir flick.
This was an entertaining movie with Hillary Brooke in top-notch form, but playing a supportive role to Phillip Reed. The movie, from my recollection of the radio show, was not up to the standard of the NBC show.
This movie had a good plot not easily discerned at the beginning. But it was made clear toward the end making it easy to follow. There were several funny lines spliced in between the drama. The picture, sound, and acting was all well-done. Thank you, The Video Cellar.
I was an extra cast member in this movie
