I think this flic needs to stay forgotten..
Forgettable is right. J. Carrol Naish is not even in this movie. That's a totally different actor playing the optometrist.
War is helll and so is this movie.
No. It's him in his least interesting role since the first Batman serial.
This film was made in 1944. It was just about over for Hitler and Goebbels so there was no longer need to be timorous about offending them. It made me know, by inference, that Hollywood must have been REALLY afraid of getting on the wrong side and that PRC Films could do no better than this in presenting such an important, vital subject, in this amateurish, poorly written, directed way. The script defeated even J. Carroll Naish and John Carradine who did better when they were the Hunchback and Dracula in another film. Where were the editors, research people, art directors. Surely, the folks who watched this film who had escaped the Reich must have puked into their pop corn.
This movie needs a remake with Leo Gorcey and Nicole Kidman. Directed by Ed Wood, of course.

I agree that this film became weak, particularly after Kramer is killed and Jerry accused. Jerry, for me is apathetic creature…a real drip!!..how a woman as gorgeous could be interested in him is a question one can ask every day and particularly of the legions of deadbeat 'stars' of Hollywood over the last 30 years. The Waterfront storyline was written in 1943 or before hand and the screenplay etc. handled by a team interested in furthering propaganda against the Germans as much as the Reich. The whitewash report of Wise tells a different story, one of his efforts to have Roosevelt admit refugees. Glad I watched in spite of the typically, overly critical 'comments' below; This was an enjoyable film and one of the handful in which the great John Carradine played a leading role. Some of you should move on to the newer Hollywood garbage if these 40's films don't suit you.
