  1. Is there any way I could could get 1hr 13mins+3secs of my life back? Please!!! 🙁 I'll go back in time and you guys can warm me not to watch this ever!!!!!! movie sucked a big pickle with NO juice!!

  2. Could do away with that corny music. 10:20. Music can make or break a movie.
A nice enough film. Good acting and was suspenseful but the ending. What a huge let down. Still…I've seen worse. This rates a B minus.

  3. She was much better in her film-noir roles, and also as a director. Anyone remember the 50's TV show "Mr. Adams Eve". She & Howard Duff played man & wife on that.

  4. IT WASNT AS BAD AS THE COMMENTS LED ME TO BELIEVE. It held my interest. The music was way over done. But the acting/ story were fine. Worth watching if u turn down volume of music parts. I am glad I watched it.👏👏

  5. The comments below are way more annoying than anything in this movie; So they overdid the musical drama, even Bette Davis complained about the overkill music in "Now, Voyager" just go with it , sheesh, better than the boom boxes in the car next to me at a red light…. Youngsters, I am thinking… also, regarding the one mass commentarial confusion below,: my reply is "Cool lookin'" photography!!" & for any answers at all regarding the latter: "Only the Shadow Knows!"…. does anyone have any imagination out there? or artistry for that matter? or sheer wonder, ? I enjoyed it just fine, especially just imagining that huge place & living there, ooh, shudder, & wondering: Is he fiend or friend?ooh, I wonder! modern movies have so destroyed the better, old ones…so thanks for posting! was worth watching!

  6. what would Ernest Gold think of all these people here slagging his music ???
buncha music haters ! shut up and listen ,
ya might learn something other than bitchin and second guessin
and the rest of it ; acting , writing , direction and production are great too !

  7. those old cars were boats but Li'l Ida looks likes she's wheelin a battleship around @ 3:45
this is all Ida and the mucic score / FX , totally brilliant , direction & acting both
she absolutely nails the part of the marginally imbalanced idiot driven to paranoid delusions by her own imagination and prompting of a whack "haunted house" situation

  8. Read the comment below but didn't even notice the music. Don't think the shadow was particularly pertinent. Liked it!!! Liked Lupino and Duff together.

  9. In my honest opinion, this movie is much to do about nothing.  Yes, it has some intrigue, some suspense, some suspicions, but what it comes to let me down.  I am sorry to have to say that. The acting was good.  The music was definitely needed to maintain the suspense and mystery.  RoccosClassicsCafe, thank you for uploading.  I still would rather have seen this than any modern day offering on the screen.

  10. The director tried to do too much, soundtrack is annoying, not enough backstory for the main character, and the ending is too quick and sucks. 2 thumbs down.

  11. What a creepy, nosy, unfriendly, and dull "caretaker." I would have fired her the first day. He must have been insane to see anything in her…..

  12. 45.34 great movie so far – Agnes is so stiff and lacking in animation – all are stiff and wooden and strange so far
shadow at end would be part of the horror aspect of the movie – Jennifer's ghost – haunting is often a theme in horror movies

  13. Great to see Ida & Howie together. They had a long lived deeply romantic relationship and despite films like Jennifer they made it in Hollywood. Good for them. Ida is such a great name!

  14. Even by the standards of 1953, this film is very, very slow, it really makes you wait for it. It's full of all those 50s B/W attractions though, all the things that make these old films so much better than today's fare. I liked it. I'd love to have a "go" at Ida Lupino, these fifties women get me that way.

  15. also to the person who said Terror at haunted house is worse than this one i disagree actually, i actually watched that one recently and while that one isn't a great film by any means it's a decent one that had my attention better and i was never bored while watching it unlike this one where i was bored out of my mind. this film was well acted and well made but it was very poorly written. thank god it was a short film at only 73 minutes.
