  1. surprised that Karlov (as Franken-Jives the butler) got top billing over Melvin Douglas (the guy with the foot-fetish) and Charles Laughton…rather silly 'horror?' movie…but does have it's amusing moments…potato anyone?

  2. The end was a little weak, but Ernest Thesiger did a great job as Horace,Β the creepy brother. I haven't seen many movies with Charles Laughton. He's actually as good as his reputation.

  3. I proper feel sorry for Morgan, I may be wrong but I think he's just proper misunderstood, It seems to me that all he want's for the women is to protect them, he's just a bit heavy handed and clumsy ,as he is shitfaced all the time, and the guys misunderstand and want to hurt him, of course I may be wrong and he's just a psychotic rapist.

  4. Another wonderful classic made possible by the impeccable taste of Julius (Carl Jr.) Laemmle who green lighted this little 'ditty" and to insure the comedic elements would meld with the "horror" employed director extraordinaire James Whale to helm the direction.

  5. My partner Leona and I are so very grateful for this classic movie titled "The Old Dark House." What we were so stunned about was the performances from every single member of the cast, especially the senior woman who played two roles. Now, for the special effects; Can you only imagine those moviegoers who went to see this beauty in the theatre? Often back then, an average audience or I should say a "full house" for these typical theatre could be as much as 5,000 people! Now, for the Sound F/X? This is 1932, people must have been mesmorized by the bone chilling wind, rain and crashing sounds. Also, back then people weren't semi-trained in the art of filmmaking, few were so you weren't apt to hear "Wow, nice special f/x!" Thanks ever so much. Gordon and Leona

  6. it's a true classic storm an all creepie with creeper owners creepie house just creepie. more guest Mr christon …life of the party… so turn off the lights an enjoy a creep of a movie…. the ending was short an aubroupt.

  7. One of my favourite films!
Seminal work, all else rests on it, and even then it was a pastiche.
Deeply witty and sardonic, great script and much racier than subsequent movies from the 40s and 50s. Great acting, just this side of hammy, with some genuine pathos from Charles Laughton. And its even a bit sinister….boiled potatoes and pickled onions…

Have the Welsh mountains improved? Or are they still underwater πŸ˜‰

  8. You will not see a movie like this again .
It's weak at times but it's so different i had to watch it through . The 100 year old man in the room gave it a certain touch that was creepy and said at the same time with the relative locked away who get's out . What a gem .

  9. The old guy warns Mrs Waverton Morgan is an uncivilized brute when he drinks so what does she do, she slips off to put on her skimpiest dress. Women ! Ha ha

  10. If anyone tells me to do the complete analysis of this movie, I would really like to do in this way that most of the movie only consisted silent conversations between the characters of the movie in a creepy background that I found to be too much boring.Seriously too much BORING that I just dozed off a little bit while watching this movie till somewhat interesting happening starts to take place like Villain character(Well, I don't know his name) of this movie was threatening to pierce his knife through someone's body(I also don't know his name either). Some scenes of this movie were really GOLD!!! Hit LIKE if you agree with me.
