A delightful film. Carole is fine, Cary is young, and the moral during the depression IS THAT IT'S BETTER TO BE POOR & HAPPY, THAN TO HAVE MONEY. Remember who the audience was. Poor people. But they don't make 'em like that anymore.
I am so thankful for the movies posted on youtube from the early thirties, films like this one. This is a great film. I knew some of the early sound gems but not enough. Somehow there are so many fine films from those years that I never saw before. My whole idea of those early sound years are totally transformed. Previously, I thought that the sound films started blossoming after 1935. Now I think there is lots of gold to be mined during the first half decade.
This is a delightful movie. It's a treat to see Chester Morris and Carole Lombard in this film. The art deco scenery and costumes are a treat for the eyes as well.
These are pretty obscure films to the uninitiated, Now they're being grabbed for copyright violation thanks to SOPA: Either constant interruptions with advertising or simply deleted. Netflix is a wasteland. Amazon Instant Video is just as bad for finding 30s and 40s movies. Alas, Poor YouTube watcher!
Bear 113 so glad you liked the film. I cannot tell if she is confused or just has no boundaries on her scruples. I find "most" women "I" have known has so much trouble being honest. They plaster their faces like a mask, so afraid to be truly seen for who they and what are. Never trusted a woman who uses too makeup, they are usually hiding something besides zits. Never understood how they have trouble with honesty. He asked if she was happy and she said yes when all of us new she was miserable. Why not be truthful. it is not in a woman's vocabulary to be honest. I am 68 and still don't understand it. They have no idea what integrity is let alone the definition. I LOVED this movie I personally found it even a bit profound.. She chose money over love and look what it got her, cause all of her own grief. Absolutely incredible writing, deep psychological incite, probably only for some. Thank you so much for posting. When I watch a movie I dissect them. I love viewing direction and dialogue. this piece has more value then most. Should be seen more than once to get the full impact.
Adrienne Ames was judged to have made the best performance in this film by contemporaries. Lombard was able to play comedy and drama and here performs adequately but it is not her best work. Such a shame that neither Ames nor Lombard lived to be forty. Chester Morris was great in hard boiled detective roles but seems awkward in a romantic comedy.
This was Alexander Hall's first film as director. He worked as a contract director for Columbia for many years and his films were generally financially successful. He specialized in sophisticated comedies. You'll notice his trademark speeding up of dialog delivery.
WHAT a MOVIE!! Great story,realistic,down-to- earth pathos!! Lombard& Morris Quite together! Sad,that people, think things Are More important than relationships that Are Caring,Loving,Compassionate!! Thanks4 Showing movie!!

It's just depressing that the best left the world too early. Carole Lombard was one of the Greatest.
Man! Cary Grant had so little screen time, I blinked and almost missed him.
Shame- No sound for this gem-
A very sweet and fine film! Interesting cast and gorgeous fashions!
i GOT NO SOUND TRACK??
What fun these Pre-Code films are. Terrific cast. Thanks for sharing!
Film is so out of focus. It's the age I suppose.

loved it,thank you so much<3
Cary Grant finally shows up like at the second half of the movie,
46:37 to be exact! It was a bit part…but, hence a legend was born!
"You could have anyone you want" – "Yes, I know" – Now that's confidence!
Ah…Cary Grant – it was worth the wait!
When do the blow jobs start?
Carole Lombard was not a very attractive woman.
someone acknowledge me, anyone wanna watch these with me please
Carole is sensational as always. what a woman yeah i enjoy Carole Lombard movies , she is just great.
I really loved it, but Carole Lombard needs better aspirations. They should never give the world's most perfect woman unworthy lines to say. . .
Oh Chet! He's just so handsome, how he makes me swoon! Cary has nothing on him! And Carol Lombard is perfect!
Carol was a gorgeous creature, Those were the good ole days, Wish i would have been born around 1900 instead of 1960.

women looked like women back then.
Lombard is very watchable in anything. Thanks for sharing.
