  1. Rock a bye baby where did it start
    Right at the United Nations
Right in its heart .. The New Whirl Order .. Where fools played their parts .. Just like a movie of the devil’s arts ..!

  3. Wow what a flick.
So nice to see another one of Francis Farmers unburied movies
It's a shame we are deprived of this rare gems works.
Thank you . Hope we get to see more.

  4. This is the first time I heard an American pronounce anywhere in the world outside of America correctly.Yes Pago Pago is pronounced pango pango . In the south Pacific names with a d or g are pronounced as ng or nd like pago pago is Pango Pango or Nadi is Nandi.
This was 1940 movie, maybe WW11 destroyed American intelligence and nobody learned anything because " we have the bomb"

  5. A few harsh comments have been posted here about this film, but its message is very pro-Islanders, and against the nasty pearl pirates. For its time, it's pretty enlightened, seems to me. And the story is more realistic than the movies that have volcanoes erupting at the end as a way to resolve the plot. Of these South Seas dramas– once a very popular genre– I think this one is better than most. Frances Farmer does a good job as the Singapore bar hostess, someone who has been kicked around by life, and finds happiness on the island. Lead actor Jon Hall actually grew up on Tahiti, and was familiar with Island life. His father was Swiss, and his mother Tahitian. His uncle, James Hall, co-wrote the "Mutiny on the Bounty" novels, and lived on Tahiti for many years. So in Hall's case, his portrayals of Islanders were based on some personal experience.

  6. Entertaining movie but more of the kind of cultural snobbery dictated by hollywood.I first saw this movie at age 9 or so.I did not realize then how preposterous it was that the Jon Hall character would find the smelly and "cheap" Francis Farmer character so desirable. Also realistically ,he would have probably caught an STD from her that would have eventually wiped out the entire island.

  7. I remember as a 12 year old girl scanning the TV Guide looking for this film… it was always on at 1 or 2am… I felt it was the epitomy of romance. Thank you so much for allowing me to relive that!

  8. Frances Farmer is terrific in a role that could have been just ridiculous for someone like her at the the time, but she somehow managed to overcome that!!!
Jon Hall who had scored big in the similar "The Hurricane" a few years before was just fine here!!!
    Thank you for the film!!!

  9. I love this movie! One of the stars, Olympe Bradna, who plays Malia, lived until 2012. The problem with this print is that after a few minutes the soundtrack goes out of sync with the film. I hope this can be remedied.
