  5. >SPOILER ALERT< Absolutely LOVED it. Extremely satisfying to see that evil loud mouth son of a bitch busted down to size and found guilty. I really loved it when the train just pulled up and that special prosecutor with all those secret service men jumped right off and grabbed that obnoxious bastard and threw him right in jail…….lol. Robert Preston can play a perfect hero or a perfect jerk. But omg what a shocker ending, I never thought Steve and Annie would end up getting married in the end……………………….pfffffffffffttt.

  14. So pleased with this movie! Love the way it all turned out, and you gotta love Loretta Young! She is so very versatile (was… RIP). The "ladies" were so great! As another viewer mentioned, humor but very topical and important issues were addressed. How wonderful having the former slave as a very integral – and intelligent – character in the story – wonderful for the times, I mean. You know, Mae West (earlier) and Bette Davis, anytime I saw them in movies, the script included very informal, normal dialogue between their race and others. I always wonder if the stars had anything to do with that… I'm sure they were glad to portray those characters, else hypocrisy would have shown. Thank you!

  15. What a controversial film for its time! Apart from women getting the vote, did anyone notice that it was a black servant who schooled Annie in political process??? Wow!! Thanks for posting this gem!

  19. The last sentences could spoil it, but I won't let them … it's one of the most wonderful classical movies I've ever seen. Since I helplessly love classical Hollywood, I more often than not have to "overlook" the degrading way non-WASPS and females are portrayed, but not here: a sweet, smart, strong, and lovely leading lady! A wise and kind black man.
    Of course it's a comedy, but who would hold that against it – humor being a classical weapon in favor of the oppressed at all times.
    This is a movie to sit back to, let all defenses down, and just enjoy!
