And then along came Jones…
She died of cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol dependency in 1938, aged 49. For some reason, not shown in the movie, probably not enough of a Hollywood ending for back then.
An Amazing movie of desire and determination.

麦克一脚把门踢开的那一段,中央台译制频道特意把门倒在地上的声音调大了。:)
Great old movie. thank you.
Betty Hutton was hilarious indeed…a lively comedy
Let me get this straight. So, you only record films made by paramount. Am I correct? Correct me if i'm not.
// I Found Myself Laughing At A 1947 Movie When The Balloon Broke Away And She Went To Hit The Producer On The Head And Called Him A Irish Bog Hopper ,That Was So Funny. ,Great Movie. !!
What an ending. Tear jerking. Best performances by Betty Hutton
and John Lund.
Terrible schlock movie, all fiction about Pearl's romance and accident. Married several times, she lived in Paris, finally. Betty Hutton is a dated actress.
Too bad the film quality is not as clear as it could be but the poor quality doesn't take away from Betty's performance. She shines thru in spite of it!
In showbiz there's people known as "triple threats"- those who have almost equal talent in acting, singing, & dancing. Back in the day, Jimmy Cagney was one tho many didn't realize it. He really only made 1 movie that really showcased his amazing abilities. Of course, he was a fantastic dramatic actor. He could do a bit of light comedy but it wasn't really his forte.
I believe Betty Hutton has him beat all to heck & should be considered a quadruple threat bcuz, of course, she could sing & dance, but unlike Cagney, she could do comedy & drama equally well, tho she didn't get much chance to show off her dramatic abilities, but in this film she shows exactly why I consider her a "quadruple threat".
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH NEW YORK CITY?AND WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH FUNCTIONAL CRACK HEADS?AND WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH ME TO?AND WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE TERM A LIST?AND WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH ALL THOSE HAIR EXTENSIONS?

I was 7 years and I loved this movie, t
Let's see how much I remember 😉
So sad the end. I never remember the end being so heartbreaking when I saw it forty years ago.
she seems like a bully and a pompous person to deal with sad this is a true story
Just had to watch this. Knew about it. I think my mom was pregnant with me at the time. My dad is one of the dancers in the last performance in the movie. Made me sigh.
Really fun movie. Thanks for putting it up!
Betty's so adoreable-they're all good; thank you!
I can remember seeing this in film in 1947. What a hoot.
Mostly fictional, though- this movie showcased Betty's boisterous singing and dancing.
