  1. The poor little boy's death at the beginning reminded me of every too-tolerant, and therefore irresposible parent. There's a time and a place for allowing your children to do what they want.

  2. This film is fraught with technical errors. This includes the volume at least on line because some of the dialog is too low in volume. And some might say that the ending is far fetched. But overall a good plot nonetheless. Thanks in any case for providing it.

  3. Excellent actors (Ingrid is, among the best actresses, if not THE best, of all times), Max Shell is a genius and at his very best here, S. Eggar is a high class actress (anybody remembers "The Collector"?), perfect camera-work, perfect directing, but…the essential part of a plot is very unconvincing: it is entirely impossible that both – the ex-husband and a step daughter – do not recognize Michelle. OK, in the street, as passing by her, or during a short moment/a blink of the eye…but once you actually sit face to face with a person whom you used to know well (at least as far as the appearances go) it is impossible not to recognize that person or to take that person for someone else. There are even cases where the person was heavily wounded/mauled, with half of his/her face missing, even gotten mute etc., yet the identity of such person was not questionable at all… And the "fact" that nobody knew Stan was having an affair with the young girl – Michelle's stepdaughter – (with whom he was living, in the same house, secluded, for a couple of years!!). Oh, cmmon people…

  4. Whew ~ I almost stopped watching…. thought it wasn’t going to end well for Dr. Wolf … but I pushed on though until the end .,.to MY SURPRISE it ended as I would have wanted I’m rating it a 5 out of 5 ⭐️

  5. Wonderful movie!! When you are a successful woman you might find it hard to meet your match. Even though her match (Lom) was steering her right in the face she chose the creep. With a quote from Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov as the basis of their relationship he thought he could live it out and get away with it, not hardly!! Excellent cast and the acting was just superb!!

  6. Wow! This was in my recommendations and I don’t have a clue why but what a film! A masterpiece. Thank you so much for sharing. In turn, I am sending the link to friends who I know will love it.

  7. Reading the glowing comments, I'd love to watch the whole thing, but the musical score seems so inappropriate to me, so disconnected from the great acting and direction, that it's throwing me off completely, and I've had to stop at 10 minutes in.

  8. What a strange film! It is stranger than one thinks! Two minutes after Auschwitz the regular consistent everlasting evilness and blindness are there in full performance, including a woman fabulous in the chess game, exquisite blond, a true labor-doctor, as rich as presumably only a Jewish can be, who had just seen everything, but ready as ever any woman is ready to succumb to her own folly. I call this some story! … and Dostoyevsky chuckling in his grave!! Mind you, the false lover is a Polish guy noch dazu!! Some healthy sense of humor! In the P.C. world, we live in, with all over mee too ladies, this is a truly candid fine story! What filmmaker today would dare such ironies?! Think of the opening of the film… think of the use of the number on the hand… my goodness!

  9. I can't believe it! The PHENOMENAL German film Pheonix was based on this, I had no idea!

If you haven't seen Phoenix with Nina Hoss, directed by Christian Petzold – it's exceptional. One of the best foreign films of the past ten years – it's on Criterion. It drops the stepdaughter storyline so it's not exactly the same, but the similarities are there.

  10. The first 2-3 minutes was good . The movie caught my interest when the boy jumped off the train ! 😅😅😂🤣 Let’s see what happens next.

  11. Thulin was such a beautiful woman as most of the female Bergman actors. She fell victim to age and alcohol in her late years, unrecognizable. Best times for movie goers.

  12. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This life is never going back to normal and before long you will not be able to buy or sell without the V as prophesied in the Bible, but Jesus Christ loves you and can save you. If you will ask Jesus Christ with a genuine heart to please forgive all your sins, and come into your heart and please save you, he will save you and you will soon know how real he is. God bless.
