  1. This was a fantastic recounting of a true story. Madeleine really loved Emile but i think he was only after her rich lifestyle. He as good as said so to her. He was very insensitive to the position she was in. Women had to follow a strict moral code back then. She must have been terrified of being shamed and of her father casting her out, so murder for her must have seemed the only option. Sadly the rich gentleman who truly loved her, was unrequieted by Madeleine.

  2. David Lean before the success of River Kwai. Wonderful film full of nuances and very erotic for its time. Lean was masterfully showing things.. Without showing things. David Lean, one of the greatest 🟥

  3. A great story. Just wondering that lady playing Madeline was too old looking for the character. Director didn't pick a proper actress.

  4. I agree with all of the comments and thank the creator for the upload, but I’ve yet to see the question asked: did she do it? The poison that she bought was colored with soot, so for me she’s not guilty. Any others?

  5. The tenderness she had with Emile, I think she really loved this one but the fear of her father was greater. Just loved the way you hear Emile's footsteps and then the way he uses his stick against the fence to announce his arrival.
The courtroom scene was exquisite, I can't imagine how lawyers can learn all their lines to make their submissions.
Emile has the nicest landlady, she cares about her tenants.
Eeeeessccchh … the father drives his household with fear fully and completely the authority figure (women have come far for equality).
Love the way it ends like we're a part of the jury and makes us wonder what our verdict would be.

  6. Great movie with a real edge of seat cliff hanger at the end. The only problem I found was the sound man should have been shot preferably with a silencer. Especially when it came to the orchestral parts where the volume was considerably turned to max!
The orchestra seemed to dominate the soundtrack.

  7. An example of great entertainment. Good storyline, great acting, and clever direction. No hidden messages, no brand-placement, and no shown sex or violence.
