  1. Everyone is going through the cigarette smoking ritual in almost every scene. There was much programming back in the day. No wonder most people smoked back then.

  2. I’m just here to see José Oliveira’s cameo 38 minutes in. I’m fond of his Disney character José Carioca, and I was hoping he’d be in here for longer, but nope. Oh well.

  3. An intelligent sophicated man (as casted) will have "smelled a rat" in this scheme, and exited immediately . ????????
All else, is a plot failure.

  4. An enjoyable film well acted and a decent plot but to mention it in the same sentence as The Maltese Falcon I'm sorry in my humble opinion there is no comparison, thanks for posting.

  5. Fun move, just goes to show that a good story more than makes up for mediocre acting. I’d rather be watch films like this than 95% of what’s coming out of Hollywood today.

  6. John was a tough dude. He played a real sucker for the dame as someone noted previously it has a certain similarity to Maltese falcon

  7. John Payne………….smiles. He had tiny cherub lips and in every scene he had a pout look on his face with a look of ready to cry. His lips might have been small but boy could he puff on those cancer sticks.

  8. Good old film with John Payne, built from the same mould as Robert Mitchum, but with less personality and looks. What a little bitch the sexy Mary was. I wonder if women like this really exist in real life?!?!
