  1. You will be forgiven for thinking that this was a Hammer Films movie. This was, after all, written by that movie company’s favorite man of the written script Jimmy Sangster. But BLOOD OF THE VAMPIRE was produced by Robert S. Baker and Monty Berman, who also gave us JACK THE RIPPER (1959) and THE FLESH AND THE FIENDS (1960). The makeup was done by Jimmy Evans. And this movie was made by Tampean Films; its U.S. distributor was Universal-International. It was also one of the first to be issued on VHS videocassette and on Betamax by Magnetic Video in 1978. This is a bloody good show, and has some good scares.

  2. As a child of the 50s who thirstily drank up all the vampire films of the period I thought I had seen them all. What a nice surprise then to come upon this little gem that had escaped me. Not at all the standard vampire premise, this was a curious mix of genres with some nice twists – goth galore! Thanks for featuring it!
