Five people from five different nations suddenly find themselves on an alien spaceship where they are each given a container holding capsules. Every person has been given the power over life and death. Any of these individuals can instantaneously launch the capsules to whatever coordinates they choose and each capsule will then eradicate all human life within a 3,000 mile radius of its designated location. What will they choose?

  3. This is also a racist movie: no Africans, no Indians either east or west, no native Americans or Australian aboriginals, or people of the south pacific but they are supposed to represent the races of the earth.

  5. After watching 13 minutes of this movie, I realized why I had never heard of it before. The whole premise is stupid. Any sane person would've just left the weapons on the table, and told the alien to take a hike. After all, he said they were incapable of violence.

  8. Disappointing. I do enjoy Gene Barry and Arnold Miss, the alien. Moss was on Star Trek episode "The Conscience of the King" and an episode of The Rifleman as a strict school master. Very distinctive voice!

  10. I remember seeing this on TV when I was a kid, probably in the late 60s/early 70s.
    The idea of giving half a dozen ordinary people the chance to make such a momentous decision, and contrasting that with what the governments thought made a big impression on me.
    Although I haven't seen the film in decades, I've never forgotten the scene where the guy throws his box into the ocean.
    BTW: Watching it again now, the voice of the news reader reminds me of a bunch of American cartoons. He did an awful lot of voice work in the 60s and 70s!

  15. What a ridiculous movie. Their “ethics” won’t allow them to murder, but it’s just fine to trick people into it? These aliens are complete psychopaths. I’d want nothing to do with them.

  22. Just think of all the wars humans have created. The slaughter of inocent people. Whats going on in the Ukraine and Gaza and Israel. We created some fantastic weapons and technology for mass killing. We learned nothing. Humans are not civilized. Just because we build cities, universities, hospitals and so many other things does not make us civilized. America is on the brink of electing an orange Hitler. We are just cruel animals with big brains.

  23. Can’t help wondering how this story would be if Rod Serling had go at rewriting it. It’s a good story but I couldn’t help thinking how Twilight Zone it seemed thematically.

  29. Very, very, very, unique story line. Very unusual. No monsters. No ray guns. A psychological thriller.
    There is another sci fi out there that I am VERY surprised wasn't made into a movie yet. I think it is called "First Contact" by Robert Heinlein. The story goes that humans traveling through deep uncharted space meet aliens for the first time. There are things to be considered from that point on and the story covers them in as interesting a way as this own did here.

  40. In the mid 60's my buddies and I would sleep out under the stars hoping to see a UFO. People were seeing them everywhere and we knew it was just any day now and they'd land in Washington… or in our backyard. I practiced what I would say to them in my mind. "Do you know how to cure my dad's cancer?"

I've seen this movie many times since I was a kid and I understand why the alien chose people from countries in conflict with other countries, but what I never understood was why he thought it would be a good idea to go on TV and tell the whole world, he had to know what would happen if they knew such a powerful weapon was now available to them.????
