Very good movie!????
If you want learn english watch old movies❤
So i watched the movie a few times in german, the translation seems to be off sometimes. Maybe the german words would be too long to translate accurately or something, but it just struck me.
18:28 Heini saying "I dont know, sometimes i am afraid of you, many times i do not understand you, i am not certain we are friends" is not in the german translation. There he just says "Well Captain, but sometimes i dont understand you, sometimes i dont know what you mean. In any case, i like to be with you"
Kinda gives a different vibe to the whole dialogue.
WOW! One of the best films I have ever seen. This ranks with the very greatest. The plot is tight and dramatic, the acting sensational, the detail incredibly accurate throughout and the ending–phenomenal and perfect! A wonderful message of hope and compassion. How we need it… Thank you for posting this total GEM!
Robert Mitchum is without a doubt the G.O.A.T.'s!!!
I'm a Combat Veteran,
And his presence and words would Inspire me to follow him into Combat
1:32:08 "He's my friend."
I always loved this laconic response.
Wojna, każda wojna ma to do siebie że pięknie wygląda tylko w kinach i telewizji. Mój dziadek który przeżył niemiecką okupację zawsze mi powtarzał, żebym nigdy nie musiał przeżyć tego co on.
Absolute nonsense this is ridiculous because it's American chivalrous Propaganda
I Farted
The helmsman was zig zagging at 30:43.
This was a time when we respected our enemies. Hated them, but respected them. The same is no longer true. Especially amongst our own. A democrat president using the judicial system to take down the guaranteed presidential candidate for the Republican nomination. What has our Republic become? The democrats have corrupted every aspect of this country’s government to enrich themselves and their families and their friends. Tyranny prevails when good people do nothing to stop it!
Ask the Jews! Scary times some of us are going to have to live and try to survive through. What a shame.
Great show
Wow…what a wonderful movie…….Thanks for everybody. The dialogue between the Captains at the end is very inspiring.

That painted motto overhead on the German sub roughly means, "leader commands, we follow". "Fuhrer befiehl wir folgen"

Curt Juergens, after watching this movie several times, I grew to fully appreciate his contribution to this movie. It was he who provided the human element to not only this movie but my feelings towards war. It was the scene where he and Hynie had a man to man discussion as to the war. He conveyed to the audience his feelings with his eyes. It’s my opinion it is he that did the best job of acting in this movie. Sure Robert Mitchum was cast as the star, Burt Curt showed his worth.
Proper old school film, i. Rember watching it when I was boy with my dear old dad, god bless ???? him
This wasn't the only warship Robert Mitchum lost. He also lost the North Hampton.
No better film made to remind us of the number of 'citizen sailors' who fought the naval war against both Japan and Germany. OK, maybe Mr. Roberts is an equal. Had a Geometry teacher in my sophomore year (69-70) who was an Ensign JG on a Buckley Class DE in the South Atlantic. This is a phenomenal film, and a reminder of what human beings can actually rise to in moments of extreme stress, and imminent danger. Please note that Dick Powell, the 'singing Marine', directed this film. I'm not sure he directed another. The only films of the USN I consider in its' class are Mr. Roberts, and The Sand Pebbles.
Thanks for this.
Great movie, I've watched it many times.
