  1. It always struck me that the young man at the inn, who wanted to buy Jane a drink, could have been her cousin Johnny Reed.

And maybe, just maybe, there was a fleeting recognition between them when she left.

  2. I am presently reading Jane Eyre. This production is excessively melodramatic AND choppy. It all feels rushed. It's a long novel, and they've tried to condense its best parts into this brief film, but it's simply too much material for so little time. It occasionally resembles the novel, but for the most part, this is not a worthy adaptation by any means. Welles is dynamic but he's larger than life; Joan Fontaine overacts almost as much as he does, and she certainly does not look eighteen, Jane Eyre's age.

  3. I used to watch this movie when I was a kid at least once a year! I've seen it about ten or 15 times! I've also seen four other versions from the 70s, 80's, 90s and the early 2000s! I also read the book and I still have it!😊

  4. As good as this movie is, it's ultimately disappointing. A little editing and an additional 15 minutes could have included the long segment in the book when she wanders into the two missionaries' home.

  5. What a great movie.Very compelling story.Powerful and convincing characters. I loved the intensity of this drama.Just a shame that the sound was lost at the ending.

  6. What a dynamic movie and excellent portrayal of the characters from the novel My favorite movie and actors, and its one that can be viewed many times without growing tired of it. I rate this a 10.
