Charlie Bubbles, a writer, up from the working class of Manchester, England, who, in the course of becoming prematurely rich and famous, has mislaid a writer’s basic tool – the capacity to feel and to respond. Now he must visit his estranged wife and son, whom he has set up on a farm outside his native city. His journey accidentally becomes an attempt to reestablish his connections with life, people, and his own history.

Having watched this movie I am left with the overwhelming desire to jump of the Sydney harbour bridge, but then again I realise my life has no resemblance to the dreadful characters in this pitiful movie and rejoice at how fantastic my life is,thank you Albert,Liza and Billie you have allowed me to refocus my perspective and enjoy life again!
I wished I could've been the man in the scene at 54:45!!! Talk about laying eyes on Unlimited Liza!!! Damn, she was smoking hot, especially with nice panties and a cute ass at 55:25!!! โค
One of the finest movies ever made in England. A lot of continental ouvre.
Very good.
6:19 look there's Peter Sallis
"Slow development" has its place, but 15 minutes into this film nothing has happened. <yawn>. Don't feel like watching the rest of it if it's going to be this slow.
Anyone else here because of Billie Whitelaw?

Bought the dvd few years back, LOVED IT! When i saw what the ending may be. I thought, hold on, surely not. But it was just thatโผ๏ธ ๐คฃ๐คฃ I wish Albert had directed more films ๐๐
My fave Actor
all white London, what kind of prethatcher/tory scum CGI tricklery is this?
Ms. Minnelli looks more beautiful and sexier..without that long hair wig.
Did they run out of money and decide he should just kill himself in a balloon? I thought it could have been good. Iโm really angry about the waste of those expensive actors and the story could have had meaning. The cctv of the rooms in his London house was quite funny.
I wanted to see what Albert Finney was like before my time. Thank you.
Who is Timothy Garland?
Siamo nel 1968 che film bellissimo con Liza Minnelli
Always thought this was b and w.
Total stupidity- worthless junk; total waste of talent.
The film is a tour de force
Trippy, late 60s goodness
utube smile by John bavas
B grade rubbish, unwatchable
……. seems to start falling apart, early on. –
Billy Whitelaw always gives me that feeling; that She is 'Medea' inside! I can understand Samuel Beckett choosing her to interpret His work ………. she seems like a 'walking Volcano' in Potential.

I couldn't watch "Smashing Time," and after an interesting opening, I have grave doubts about this at around 7:42. Anarchic, rude, silly behavior like this is never justifiable, never funny, never clever. I don't care if your pater WAS a navvy.
