The Razor’s Edge is a 1946 American drama film based on W. Somerset Maugham’s 1944 novel of the same name. It stars Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, John Payne, Anne Baxter, Clifton Webb, and Herbert Marshall, with a supporting cast including Lucile Watson, Frank Latimore, and Elsa Lanchester. Marshall plays Somerset Maugham. The film was directed by Edmund Goulding.
The Razor’s Edge tells the story of Larry Darrell, an American pilot traumatized by his experiences in World War I, who sets off in search of some transcendent meaning in his life. The story begins through the eyes of Larry’s friends and acquaintances as they witness his personality change after the war. His rejection of conventional life and search for meaningful experience allows him to thrive while the more materialistic characters suffer reversals of fortune.
The Razor’s Edge was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture, with Anne Baxter winning Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

I don’t like when at the beginning of some of the Twentieth Century Fox pictures in those days, they don’t open with the traditional drumroll and music that defined the TCF brand for so many years. They play music instead. ‘The Razors Edge’ is one such picture unfortunately.
Clifton Webb!
Thank you for keeping these jewels of movies alive.
Watching this in January 2025 – making me dream of better times long ago!
As our world is falling apart; what a beautiful distraction to watch this delightful movie. ❤️
This is the 2nd time seeing this wonderful movie…thank you so much 😁…the modern films will never come close to these gems 😁😁😁
Superb movie! Full of subjective esoteric meaning. The movie is symbolic and a metaphor of the spiritual seeker or, more precisely, a tale about an initiate into the mysteries of the soul. Such hidden meaning; it is a gem. In plain sight for those who know just a little. W. Somerset Maugham, wrote the novel The Magician, in 1907, after a visit to Paris in 1905 where he met an infamous occultist. Although, I can't prove it, I believe W. Somerset Maugham must have had esoteric insights that inspired his work. So talented an artist, he was. Such a great gem of a movie!
Clifton Webb was such a queen.
Not nearly enough dialog…
2nd time watching!! Love Gene ❤

Men seeking YAH, and the forgiveness and peace that comes knowing his son YAHSHUA
Wow. Thank you for posting this. I have watched a lot of old movies in my time. But this has to be one the best ever. Really enjoyed. Couldn't stop crying.
Great film, terrific in so many ways. Great start! At 2:45, Clifton Webb walking behind a gentleman bent over on the patio is pure sedition. If you blink you miss it, and it just gets better and better. Hooray for Hollywood.

Tyrone Power was a pilot during WWII, so he was perfectly type cast in the role of Larry. This is a magnificent film, so much better than the remake (where Bill Murray, otherwise a superb actor, was horribly miscast in the same role.)
One of my favorite short stories made into one of my favorite classic films. One short-coming of the film is not exploring Larry Darrel's experiences during The Great War. The World War shaped his adult personality. It sent him on a Hero's Journey to discover if life has any meaning at all.

Very good ty❤
its interesting, but i never got a sense the protagonist actually changed or learned anything
at least the film knew enough to show how the treatment of others effects individuals more than they want to admit
She should run from this loser.
One of the best movies I've seen.
Quite Simply Superb..
His break through in India from 51:50 — 57 is so well done. "The reflection as seen through a glass darkly,"
I want to know, who murdered Sophie? Was it Isabelle?
GREAT MESSAGE!!!❤️❤️❤️

I am very fond of english movies but this movie put me in a very embarrassing situation. After watching it for sometime it appears to me working in this sluggish movie is rather difficult than watching it. Salute to all those actors who acted in it. After pushing myself very hard I watch this movie for 45 minutes, upto now, I didn't find find any interest in the story.
What a Gem…if anyone knows similar classic kindly share.
Oh how I just love these old movies;)))
I love Clifton Webb.
