Every time that I see or hear that, Legacy is playing on the movie I have to watch it or see it.i truly enjoy watching his roll,as a killer, or a vampire, or white zombie, etc. His character is always different. That big mouth butler , still works there after getting her fiance killed because of his big mouth. He should have been fired on the spot. An innocent man is dead because of your big mouth.

I grow weary of African-Americans portrayed as servants, but to my delight, Evans was an integral part of the plot, and his character was multi-layered and multi-dimensional. The actor, Clarence Muse, presented the character with dignity, restraint, and in a non-stereotype fashion. Not bad for 1941. Kudos to the studio and producers. Oh, and incidentally, Bela Lugosi creeped the hell outta me, while making me feel empathy for him as well. The other characters were likable…good acting all around. Thanks for posting.
