The Ghoul (1933) Classic Horror movie in HD

Classic Horror movie The Ghoul! A truly excellent old movie, highlighting the talent of both Boris Karloff and Ernest Thesiger who starred opposite each other in Bride of Frankenstein in two very different roles. I also like using Egyptian themes in a horror movie that isn’t mummy based.

  1. At 48:54 Boris' character rises from his sarcophagus. Almost an hour, but it's worth the wait. The look on his face when he realizes the amulet wasn't wrapped in his hand is one of disbelief and then a silent fury. God help the person who stole it because Boris is coming for you. Phenomenal actor Boris was!

  2. The Arab isnโ€™t an Egyptian (and admits it). The MOORlands are.
Needed a zoomshot of the jewel or whatever it was most of them were all after.
At the start of the film doorway has the number โ€œ33โ€ above it.
When I ended up in the town called โ€œJacaโ€ in northern Spain I spotted that the mountain (anenst the Pyrenees side) lookalikes the Sphinx in shape. The Sphinx sometimes has a Jackals head.

  3. Just a bit convoluted, and the characters can be pretty clichรฉ, but visually itโ€™s remarkable. Obviously the pristine copy that this restoration comes from really was pristine. Too bad more lost films donโ€™t turn up like this

  4. Boris comes home and steals the show with strong support from two future knights Sir Cedric, hardly recognisable and looks younger in Lured 1947, and Sir Ralph legend of stage and screen and the hero not playing a policeman for once Anthony Bushell. There is even a small role for Ma Huggett Kathleen Harrison.

  5. Many thanks for putting this on, it is an absolute pleasure to watch this once considered lost film in an pristine print and not a very dark hard to see and garbled sound version.Thank you!

  6. I agree with others about the marvelous visual quality of The Ghoul.

The audio quality, however, could be improved — specifically increasing the volume. It is too low.

That quibble aside, thank you for this otherwise superb presentation!
