  1. the saloon wench says he didn't havto kill the punks to prove anything ,
what she really meant was "you just killed my best (only) customers dummy "

  2. So is this how the episodes go.There is a woman that Dave romances and some dudes that he snuffs out and then he bids goodbye to the lass and heads off into the abyss again. That prescription will soon get boring.

  3. aS USUAL BETTER WRITTEN ,ACTED AND PRODUCED THAN TODAY'S CRAP. BUT IT WAS SLOTTED AGINST ROUTE 66 AND THE fLINTSTONE.S.pECKIN PA'S WORK ALWAYS SHINES!

  4. This is the way the real west was hard gritty. It was way ahead of it's time. This was and adult western like the black and white episodes of Gunsmoke the first couple of years. Lot of the westerns were aim at kids.

  5. Poignant without sentimentality. So little happened and yet so much said. Keith was a great actor. The Rifleman could have been this sort of show if they'd have let it. The Peckinpah episodes of the R-man are among the best.

  6. Excellent short-lived Western from the creation of Sam Peckinpah.  I vaguely remembered it from the day.  Was nice to encounter and view most of the episodes.  Thought provoking story lines and ahead of its time.

  7. Around this time, Peckinpah was also instrumental in getting 'The Rifleman' started, writing the pilot and other episodes and doing some directing. This show was on and was cancelled, unfortunately, near the same time one of the best shows ever on TV was cancelled, after only 13 episodes, by the same short-sighted network, NBC: 'It's A Man's World.' Both shows were examples of subtle, thoughtful, nuanced writing and acting. Sometimes, stupidly prevails.
