A rich, black farmer in 1940s Mississippi is accused of murdering a white man. Local teenagers and an elderly woman work to make sure that justice is served. This film is closely based on the novel written by William Faulkner.

  2. Struck by the lawyers words, I’ll paraphrase, “There’s a wall, and we can’t see through it. These two boys and this lady believed him, I didn’t. We built this wall and we can’t see through it” . So true, and today, same as it ever was….

  7. At 19:40 as Lucas leaves the store, the camera reverses and Chick walks into the shot with something akin to a Swiss Army Knife. This is the earliest use of one I've witnessed, altho the knives have been around for about 130+ years.

  9. I haven't watched this yet I'm not sure I will! I get so angry the way people are treated but then I think of the year 1949 so in a way it was good for people to see it and hope they thought about how people were treated and still are I don't see a lot of it thank goodness x its nice to see the young man in this I've only seen him in the Yearling with Gregory Peck take care everyone and stay safe x

  10. According the original novel they found other man in the grave as they digged it up for the first time. It was Jake Montgomery who had known the thuth and had blackmailed Grawford. As they came back with the sheriff the grave turned to be empty. Then they searched around and found the both corpses. So the elder brother made the double murder.
    After they arrrested Grawford, he comitted the suicide in the jail.
    So the original novel was much darker(

  17. I kept thinking that "Lucas" was Robert Mitchum….his looks, his steely resolve, iron will, calmness and masculinity;….I kept thinking this is Robert Mitchum. Well done acting on all parts.

  20. The premise is fate has a way of guiding one's footsteps … starting with when the boy lost his footing and fell into the creek.

  23. Absolutely a great movie William Faulkner was a great writer proud to say we were born in the same state racism and rush to judgement would have been a lynching two young men one older lady same the town from losing its soul Faulkner knew

    Which set of commandments would you choose to build a civilization on, Aleister Crowley's or Jesus Christ's? If you choose Crowley's law there will be murder, mayhem and chaos. If you choose Jesus Christ's laws there will be peace, order and safety.

  28. A great film! But this attorney is a nitwit! Any attorney in this nation knows the rules of law…a man is innocent until proven guilty. I won't reveal any more of his errors so that I don't reveal the resolution to the matter. Any attorneys out there who watch this will spot them right off. But this film is well worth watching!
