The movie “Dick Tracy” (also known as “Dick Tracy, Detective”) is a 1945 American pulp action film based on the Dick Tracy comic strip created by Chester Gould. The film is the first installment of the Dick Tracy film series.
Dick Tracy (Morgan Conway), a supremely intelligent police detective, must solve a series of brutal murders in which the victims, all from different social and economic backgrounds, are viciously slashed to pieces by the one known as Splitface. Suspects flourish but Tracy must find the common link of extortion and revenge before more are killed.

Directed by William A. Berke, produced by Herman Schlom, written by Eric Taylor and Chester Gould (comic), starring Morgan Conway as Dick Tracy (the tough detective, who let’s nothing stand in the way of justice), Anne Jeffreys as Tess Trueheart (Tracy’s girlfriend, who often falls victim to her boyfriends workoholism), Mike Mazurki as Alexis “Splitface” Banning (a psychotic ex-con who seeks revenge. His weapon is a sharp surgical knife. He has a big disfiguring scar across his face), Jane Greer as Jane Owens (a suspect), Lyle Latell as Pat Patton (Tracy’s bumbling assistant), Joseph Crehan as Chief Brandon (the reliable chief of police), Mickey Kuhn as Junior (Tracy’s adopted son), Trevor Bardette as Prof. Linwood J. Starling (a strange medium, and also a suspect), Morgan Wallace as Steve Owens (a stern businessman), Milton Parsons as Deathridge the Undertaker (a mysterious, skeletal suspect) and William Halligan as Mayor (the worried mayor of Chicago).

Fantastic what a twist towards the end!
My neighbor thinks he's Dick Tracy and says things like "Look here toots, come sit on my hat!" He really looks like John Holmes with AIDS.
Did the Galaxy Gear ad bring anyone else here?
Yup
big mistake the ole dickt asks his if she was alright and not a word to his son….
I love these Film Noir classics!! All woman were "dames" or "broads." And every respectable gangster had a "gun mall," which was always a gorgeous blonde!! (dang blonde haired women! Always bringing a good man down!). Eve had to have been a blonde.
Oh yeah, and they always use lines like, "C`mon toots, let`s go!" or "I`m carrying a rod" or "heater" or a "gat." My absolute favorite line is….."There`s only 2 things a dame understands, a "schlap" in the face or a slug from a .45." DEFINATELY words to live by. These dames would really keep their place then.
Love to watch these old movies mostly late night.. tv.. yeap
Doesn't Dick Tracy ever carry a gun like Sgt. Joe Friday in Dragnet
To Michael Delzeppo, the guy who commented cruelly a year ago, so he'll not be reading this. Just wondering why idiots feel compelled to say mean-spirited things. Brainless at birth and muddy their waters as they muddle along. Shame. As far as the movie goes, it's fun – just like the cartoons. His sidekick in this series however is annoying.
Tracy vs. Cueball is my favorite of the feature films. I used to have these on VHS and have watched them so many times that I would think they've grown old or dated somehow — but no. I still dig these. When I left Washington State I hesitantly donated my entire VHS and Mp3 collections to the local library. Now I've learned to hang out on the WWW. Ain't it great !! Gotta love it !!
It just amazes me how the Police flaunt the civil rights of the citizens. And it amazes me how the citizens Allow the Police to do it. It is as if the US Constitution did not exist in 1945.
These "Cops" have NO evidence whatsoever indicating who "Split-Face" is or that he's involved in a crime. It is 100% Guess Work with No Evidence. Maybe it was George Bush !! Or maybe Bill Clinton. Every bit of every second of this movie is Pure Conjecture. It may be perfectly correct – but that doesn't make it right or legal. I can "suspect" a girl 4 blocks away of killing my cat = based upon innuendo = but I can hardly prove it unless there is Pure Evidence far past the eyesight in the dark.
So at 54:18 into – "Split-Face" leaves the girl Downstairs while he goes Upstairs. And she just stands there. She doesn't even attempt to run away ?!!? What's up with that ??
Junior – Born Theodore Matthew Michael Kuhn, Jr. on September 21, 1932 in Waukegan, Illinois. After he reached that age that he lost his "cute kid" looks – Hollywood sort of Dumped him. Junior was the Hero in this movie. Screw Tracy and his dippy girlfriend. Junior was the one who used his intellect and courage to solve their problems. I still can't understand how the writers and director let Tess just stand in the foyer of the old house – unguarded – alone – and NOT try to escape. A Major Oops !!

Definitely a great Noir.
Thank you for sharing 😄
A great movie to watch when you're on call for work. It makes me think of my dad and how much he said he enjoyed these on Sat matinees.
Watching this makes me very aware of how much my attention span is so diminished now, due to modern TV, youtube, vines. I should watch more of these to bring my attention span back to normal.
I once had a Dick Tracy book.
I may be young but I prefer old black and white stuff over the shit they have on TV now.
Awesome! Great upload.
There's a section in the great book, Supreme City, (all about New York CIty in the late twenties into the thirties) that talks about the rise of The Daily Illustrated News, which became The Daily News. No other paper rose as quickly as it did, and one of the reasons was it's hiring of cartoonists. Like Chester Gould, who originally had a much longer name for his series. Patterson, who ran the paper, chose the name Dick. Patterson also paid extremely well for his cartoonists. Extremely. Money that would make most everybody today happy, and this was in 1929.
Speaking of noir, here a short noir film made in S.F.

GOOD SHOW but just saying, I wonder why whoever dropped her off didn't get closer to her home and walk her to her door. You don't just drop a woman off in the dark that way. But I know its just a show and I like it.
Of course, Tracy could never have beaten Scarface in a fight. Scarface was the great Mike Mazurki, one of the best movie "bad guys" and a former professional wrestler.
I've never read a Dick Tracy comic book but I enjoy watching the movies.
Thank for the upload TMC.

Easy to blend in with the crowd as a crook back in '45: every guy is wearing a suit and a hat.
do you think restaurants would still get custom if there was just one huge table instead of lots of tiny ones?
