The Millionairess (1960) Sophia Loren & Peter Sellers British Romantic Comedy | ArtHouse Media

The Millionairess (1960) is a loose adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s Play of the same name. The film stars Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers and was hugely successful when it was released. The film was one of the top grossing films in Great Britain in 1960 and played well in Canada and the USA. A comedy duet between Loren and Sellers was a chart hit in the UK with top record sales and radio airplay. The song was conceived and produced by future Beatles producer George Martin.

While a white actor (Sellers) playing an Indian character would never happen today, the British-Indian culture in the 1960’s could not identify with the character either. Nevertheless, the film helped propel Sellers career from stand-up comedy to films.

  1. Thank you that was curiously impressively bad.
So… the jungle drums cuts! (no suitable descriptors), the last scene??!?! , the lack of any wit, or acting talent, the sets, the pacing, the total misinterpretation of the writing, the glamour shots of Loren (so weird), her hair πŸ™ hair changes :(! , hats!, the strange stripping (for the wnkrs).
    Gawd, she was obnoxious.
    And, very ugly.

Sellars…. sometimes looked panicked as well he might. But dearie me the makeup, the voice :(! Also an ugly white man so unsuited for the part its…
    Gobsmacked.

An incrediblty bad movie. A classic of a director missing on all points. No charm whatsoever to leaven.
Wow though, that was in its way entertaining.
I will give a like in thanks no recommendation for that thing.
