Ugledni američki matematičar David Sumner (D. Hoffman) stiže sa suprugom Amy (S. George) u slikoviti engleski gradić u Cornwallu da sljedećih nekoliko mjeseci dovrši svoju novu knjigu. Amy je podrijetlom iz tog mjesta te njezin povratak odmah izazove pozornost sumještana, posebice njezine ljubavi iz mladosti, Charlieja (D. Henney). On je još uvijek zaljubljen u Amy, pa kad ga David unajmi da s kolegama popravi krov na kući, to mu je prilika da se udvara svojoj bivšoj djevojci. Premda istinski zaljubljena u Davida, Amy je sve nezadovoljnija brakom i suprugovim zanemarivanjem. U takvim joj se okolnostima Charlie pokuša približiti, no kad ga ona odbije, on je, tijekom Davidova odlaska u lov, prisili na seks. Zateknu ih Charliejevi radnici koji, zaprijetivši im oružjem, brutalno siluju nesretnu Amy. Mlada žena zataji što se dogodilo, ali kad u njihovu kuću uskoro stigne Henry Niles (D. Warner) kojeg sumještani optužuju za nestanak djevojke Janice (S. Thomsett), napetost će se pretvoriti u pravu tragediju…

  4. Stupidity is the weakest of weaknesses, it needs a lot of support to flourish, hence fools most often work in parties or packs. Intelligent ones are lonely.

  7. I was 14 when I watched this movie and appreciated very much even in my youth. Glad to be able to see it again after so many years! IM 65 yrs now.

  8. Straw Dogs, for me, is Peckinpah’s 3rd best film after 2nd, Ride the High Country and 1st, The Wild Bunch. Technically, there are some unforgivable bloopers, not least a scene where the viewer can clearly see the reflection of the camera in a car window, but this notwithstanding, this film is a masterpiece. A revolting masterpiece, to be sure, but for me, the blood-soaked, skin-strafed pile driver ending was in no way gratuitous. Hoffman’s feckless, feeble (until this climax), David, had had his buttons pushed to the limit, such that the seemingly sudden, sanguinary slaughter committed by this rather repressed, timid milquetoast was wholly in keeping with the foregoing events of the film. For me, amongst other things, this film may be subtitled, ‘The Revenge of the Bullied’. Peckinpah masterfully orchestrates things such that we are wholly rooting for Hoffman in the notorious denouement. I like to consider myself a law-abiding, generally mild-mannered individual, but in this revolting (in a good way) movie I can live out my vicarious revenge-fantasies in a cathartic, safe way. 🤠

  19. I hated this film basically for the ending – if he loved her so much , why did he leave her at the end? .🤔🤨.the cat death was unnecessary 😫😭😠.. I watched it once in 1979 , didn't like it then .. .a stupid plot anyway …an acquired taste I guess . . not entertainment for me … just my humble opinion…

  28. Saw that movie in Paris France in 1972. One of the most violent movie of that period. …..Sam Peckinpah shows it terribly.! Useless violence and hate.! Violence even against the cat.! Still one of the greatest movie I've ever seen, with Dustin Hoffman, excellent, as always….!
