Alleged horror movie made by the creator of The Outer Limits. This movie gets better reviews on the IMDB than it deserves in my opinion. The three things going for it are the cinematography, music, and William Shatner just before Star Trek. Oh yes, it is sub-titled because the original dialog was performed in Esperanto!
I know art and I know what I like. This movie is neither. There are many films worse than Plan 9 From Outer Space.
A must for Shatner completists..

  2. Why are some of Arndis's (Marco's sister) lines omitted? I mean where her mouth is moving, but no sound is heard. For example, at 38:08. What's up with that?

So, the story goes that, during the making of the film, a ticked off hippy in Big Sur put a curse on everyone associated with Incubus, which then explains the suicide, murder etc. that followed close behind. But the other interesting factoid (lesser known) is that director Leslie Stevens got the shots in the actual mission church because he told the Catholic authorities he was doing a documentary on the Alta California mission system. He even invented a script for them to review. Accordingly my theory is the Pope is behind the bad stuff. 🙂 .

    Anyway, great film; reminds me of "Carnival of Souls" or "Hour of the Wolf" – eerie, haunting, quasi-surrealistic

  7. This is pure crap: bad italian read by morons and acting laugably bad. As to the closed captions…if they were any bigger you couldn't see the film. This sucks….

  15. I've been taking Esperanto lessons since last August and I have to say that yes, the pronunciation stinks but it has it's good points. I'll keep watching it.

  16. The most frightening thing about this film is its use of Esperanto: whoever wrote the script didn't know the language at all well enough to use it correctly. The grammar is beyond atrocious. On top of that, most of the actors don't know how to pronounce the language. It's enough to send us Esperantists into helpless mirth — as happened at a showing in Texas a few years ago in conjunction with an Esperanto convention, when someone in the audience finally called out "will you Esperantists stop laughing?!"

  18. I remember seeing this on TCM a while back and thinking it was rather bold for its time, portraying the desire of evil and the counter balance of love and the esoteric edge between them. I did notice the portrayal of "Black Phillip" in the movie "The Witch" closely resembles the goat representing the Lord of Night.

It's actually a good movie it's such a good movie it's beautiful it has beautiful music in it beautiful scenery true love between the two actors that seems very real the love that he had for his sister that love that he had for the demon possessed girl or Incubus thing that she was whatever she was but the movies actually a good movie I've always liked it it even seems like when you're reading the subtitles I swore that William shatner was actually really talking with our language English I just it wraps you up that much that's how much I like this movie

  28. Ilian esperanto ne estas perfekta, sed tiun estas ankorau bona filmo. Tre interesaj kaj multaj mistere aferoj okazis poste ankau…pensu "Poltergeist" strange.
