They Call Me Halleluja (1971) GRINDHOUSE GRINGOS

Movie Class by PizzaFLIX: The Spaghetti Western, aptly named for its Italian origin and extra marinara sauce for its gratuitous bloodshed. This genre came into prominence after the world-wide success of Sergio Leone’s A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS which introduced the Antihero to westerns. Played by Clint Eastwood as the “Man with No Name,” this character was morally ambiguous, not the heroic savior of traditional Hollywood westerns. These films were usually Italo-Spanish co-productions. Italy’s famed Cinecittà Studios handled technical production, directing and writing, and various film companies in Spain were used for the location shooting in the desert region of Almería which closely resembles the American West.

  1. Did…. Did he turn a sewing machine into a sub-machine gun? In the time when technology still not reaching that level? I just love how cheesy this turn out to be

  2. The lighting is mostly simple, the focus is sometimes off, but the overall framing and camera work (pans, zooms, etc.) elevates the whole movie.

  3. The anti-hero cowboy was first introduced in the mid-1950s by Director & Screen Writer Budd Boettecher & great Westerns Actor Randolph Scott. Sergio Leone in a documentary said his western movies were an omage to the western films he grew up watching.
