A Soviet ‘Red Western’ classic. The Russian civil war is over, but Basmachi gangs still roam Central Asia. Fyodor Ivanovich Sukhov, a Red Army soldier, intends to return home to his beloved wife Katerina Matveyevna, but unexpected events force him to stay in the desert. The brutal bandit Abdullah and his gang kill everyone in their path and threaten to destroy the women of their leader’s former harem.
Fun facts: Film scholars believed that White Sun of the Desert had much in common with such films as The Passenger by Antonioni, The Sheltering Sky by Bertolucci, and Soviet movie The Thirteen by Mikhail Romm. In 2021, a distant Western reference might be Django Unchained by Quentin Tarantino. Therefore, the genre of the movie is vague. Film critics define the movie as a western, a red western (or eastern), and even an action flick. Many quotes from White Sun of the Desert have become catchphrases in Russian culture. The song Your Noble Highness Lady Fortune, written especially for the movie, became a hit.
The Red Western as a genre, with films such as The Elusive Avengers, Dauria, At Home Among the Strangers, and White Sun of the Desert, to name a few, became a relevant phenomenon in the Soviet film industry, causing a wave of imitations in the 60-70s, both in central studios and in film studios of the Central Asian republics.

Well, this is my new favorite!
I really enjoyed watching this. There are some really funny parts. I liked the lead character's attitude, he's helpful but unwilling to get emotionally involved.
অসাধারণ ছায়াছবি। এই ছায়াছবির পটভূমি বোধহয় ১৯১৭ বিপ্লবের পরবর্তী অধ্যায়।
Thank you
Jag var där. Filmen tog mig dit: platsen, tiden, handlingen och äventyret, långt långt borta. Vilket verk och vilken överraskning!
I want to learn to speak Russian after the events of the past year and this film is a reminder of the spirit of Russians to live love and continue to thrive and survive in a hostile world.
I was reminded of this film by an article about the life of The Russian artist, Vasily Vereshchagin, who painted
"Apotheosis of War" 1871. A story well worth researching.
Thanks so much to you for uploading this remarkable film so deserving of a wide audience!

The difference between russian heroes and western is that russian heroes usually die at the end of the story. It is a part of character – to die for friends, brothers, motherland, it is normal and even in some way a happy end for many russians, especially for soviets.
The very typical russian hero is Alexandr Matrosov. He was sent together with two mates to sneak up and crush the dugout with machine gun position. It should be done before the attack. They failed to sneak up, two mates of Alexandr were killed, he was wounded and no grenades left. He lay next to the dugout and can't do anything when the attack started. When he saw how machine gun killing the attacking soldiers he stand up an run to machine gun, he was killed, but he covers the view to the machine gunner. He is a true hero according to russians, sacrifice himself for others.
Qué pasa con la traducción al español.
Seriously, I CANOT say enough superlatives about this film making, but it is NEXT LEVEL to ALL!!! Even Spielberg
Again, I remember very well this movie when I saw the first time when I was in my twenties (now I'm 66…). Can I recommend this movie, because of the comedy and because of politics? I enjoyed this movie when I was young, and I enjoy the movie still now. Brilliant.
Not good at all and i can prove that for you if you want
true liberty
Its a great almost tragic comedy. Was enjoyable.
What an amazing film! Immensely interesting and enjoyable. Thank you for subtitling it so that international community can also enjoy this gem.
Excellent movie, i enjoyed it from start to end. thanks!
Mosfilm always comes with great movies; sensible and touching with great stories. I wonder how did mother Russia produce so many good writers!
Dark sense of humor and great acting.
Quite understandable that it is an important film in Russia. The film is lovely, a wonderful tribute to the people who made the October revolution and their legacy. The way the Russian language is spoken by the main character, so calm, makes me want to meet Katerina Matveyevna.
The original Eastern!????????
Russian movies really amazed me. I love it.
What a marvellous gem of a movie except for the ending that haste and hurry can be felt to finish abruptly .
Fun fact: cosmonauts watch this movie before start to iss, it is some kind of tradition.
Que bien sería recibido, una traducción al español.
Gracias
Nice 2 meet you , Peace ☺
Thanks for this! Only ever seen poor quality versions of the film, looks really good in HD.
If not for Andrej Tarkovski, this would have been the best soviet movie ever made.
I wonder where Tatiana Fedotiva is today ?
Thank you
If it was American, it would be about John Wayne slaughtering and raping indigenous people.
So I dont get, why you must put a disclaimer but Hollywood not.
Anyway, great movie!
Hi
Every time I am in a meeting where they ask "Are there any questions?", I want to hear Sukhov's line: "Вопросы есть? Вопросов нет!"
দারুন সিনেমা। কিছু বলার নেই। দারুন শিল্পকর্মের নিদর্শন।

Ciezka ta czerwona symbolika. Taka na pierwszym planie. Drazni w estetyce i formie. Raczej rubaszna taka niz zjadliwa.
Thank you so much for the upload! Definitely one of my favorite movies! 🙂
