  1. This is quality indeed, an absolute privilege to behold acting such as this. Alec Guinness and Mills both brilliant plus supporting cast, and the way Alec uses his voice is wonderful, as always.

  2. I've been a piper for over 50 years. I am also a USAF veteran. I discovered this movie 30 years ago. It touches me at the level of a bagpiper and a military veteran.

  3. "Help me Obiwan Kenobi… you're my only hope"! "Obiwan – now that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time"… Outstanding actor, outstanding man. In a class of one.

  4. What an Absolutely Sterling = A+ film uniquely centered within a WWII Scottish regiment…. And with an equally brilliant assemblage of A-Team British STARS!!!????
Fabulous performances from A-to-Z, and nicely "peppered" too by lovely Suzannah York's' 1st Major Big Screen role…. at 21 years old…. delivered to perfection.????
Definitely a well-scripted "human probe" into the life changing and often unresolved grief, guilt, and even ,resentment for friends and comrades who have died in battle.
???? As always, Thank You DK for having such a "keen eye"….????????

  5. Guinness' character is such a sad sack. He's constantly whining and bullying and complaining. He spends half the film abusing his authority and the other half feeling sorry for himself. The only thing worse than having this guy serving under you is having him commanding over you.
No commander in his right mind would think twice about sending this jackass to a court martial. He'd be bounced out with ''time served'' and he'd keep 2/3 of his pension. Then he could spend the rest of his days at the pub telling lies about his war medals and quietly die of liver damage.

  6. What a story! Yes indeed, he was psychologically murdered and it does happen. It starts from bullying at school and continues on. I loved the movie, yet feel very sad at the outcome. Some very good actors participated.

  7. Alex Guinness was one of the best actors of all time. I remember watching him as a young lass on television in “The Bridge on the River Kwai” in 1970’s and being moved.
Is it just me or do you catch yourself pronouncing words with a Scotch accent after watching this movie.
