Cold War propaganda.
A death cult movie.
This is also a racist movie: no Africans, no Indians either east or west, no native Americans or Australian aboriginals, or people of the south pacific but they are supposed to represent the races of the earth.
Chavanistic as usual. The woman has exposed legs while the men are fully dressed.
After watching 13 minutes of this movie, I realized why I had never heard of it before. The whole premise is stupid. Any sane person would've just left the weapons on the table, and told the alien to take a hike. After all, he said they were incapable of violence.
Слишком сложная инструкция((
Arnold Moss
Disappointing. I do enjoy Gene Barry and Arnold Miss, the alien. Moss was on Star Trek episode "The Conscience of the King" and an episode of The Rifleman as a strict school master. Very distinctive voice!
At 23:31 the Soviet general behind the desk is the same guy that played the bigwig Soviet boss in the 1982 movie Firefox starring Clint Eastwood.
I remember seeing this on TV when I was a kid, probably in the late 60s/early 70s.
The idea of giving half a dozen ordinary people the chance to make such a momentous decision, and contrasting that with what the governments thought made a big impression on me.
Although I haven't seen the film in decades, I've never forgotten the scene where the guy throws his box into the ocean.
BTW: Watching it again now, the voice of the news reader reminds me of a bunch of American cartoons. He did an awful lot of voice work in the 60s and 70s!
If only it could be that simple…..
WHAT A HYPOCRITICAL BIT OF CAPITALIST , RACIST CRAP!!!!!
Throwing away the capsule was the smartest thing to do…….
aint gonna make no money with those satelites communicating with other planets. get to thinkin more local.
What a ridiculous movie. Their “ethics” won’t allow them to murder, but it’s just fine to trick people into it? These aliens are complete psychopaths. I’d want nothing to do with them.
what is that rock and roll..is that music..sort of lol..
An hourly armed jeep check of an empty horse track.
In the late 50s?
That's the hardest thing to take seriously.
In my opinion.
KILLER B MOVIE
Maybe close to the truth. ????✌
Classic sci-fi B-movie, somewhere between EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS and Ed Wood's PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. With stock footage of flying saucers stolen from Ray Harryhausen.
That looks like the beach scene from From Here To Eternity was filmed.
Just think of all the wars humans have created. The slaughter of inocent people. Whats going on in the Ukraine and Gaza and Israel. We created some fantastic weapons and technology for mass killing. We learned nothing. Humans are not civilized. Just because we build cities, universities, hospitals and so many other things does not make us civilized. America is on the brink of electing an orange Hitler. We are just cruel animals with big brains.
Can’t help wondering how this story would be if Rod Serling had go at rewriting it. It’s a good story but I couldn’t help thinking how Twilight Zone it seemed thematically.
Certainly an enjoyable movie
Wow. that was a good movie! At first I thought it was going to be some kooky and extra silly flying saucer movie.
3 of the actors would act in star trek and lost in space. ha
It helps if a story is established BEFORE the ads show up. Didn't get watched because of this.
Wow the Russian general pops up again with Clint Eastwood in FIREFOX….Dealing with great power again???
It's fascinating to read the comments here, how this movie has effected people all these years. Thanks for letting us know.
Very, very, very, unique story line. Very unusual. No monsters. No ray guns. A psychological thriller.
There is another sci fi out there that I am VERY surprised wasn't made into a movie yet. I think it is called "First Contact" by Robert Heinlein. The story goes that humans traveling through deep uncharted space meet aliens for the first time. There are things to be considered from that point on and the story covers them in as interesting a way as this own did here.
Gene Barry was in Bat Masterson and Name of the Game plus Burke's Law on TV so he was not confined to Films.
An excellent movie for its time period.
Great movie 🙂
Careful with The Alien: He's actually Kodos the Executioner.
This film definitely stands out against the usual cheap, cheesy and bunk science in the movies of it's day. A little gem of a film.
…Boss 'arama, wouldn't it be nice…
Africa not represented in those days.
29:21 A bong! ????
Giving a thumbs down for all the ads.
01:34 That's what I call "buxom".
In the mid 60's my buddies and I would sleep out under the stars hoping to see a UFO. People were seeing them everywhere and we knew it was just any day now and they'd land in Washington… or in our backyard. I practiced what I would say to them in my mind. "Do you know how to cure my dad's cancer?"
What a great dream,if only we could be like that.!!
I enjoyed the film, but found the major point a letdown: all freedom loving societies were spared while societies opposed to freedom perished?
I've seen this movie many times since I was a kid and I understand why the alien chose people from countries in conflict with other countries, but what I never understood was why he thought it would be a good idea to go on TV and tell the whole world, he had to know what would happen if they knew such a powerful weapon was now available to them.????
These imbedded commercials are annoying as shit.
