American GI Ernie Williams, admittedly weak-kneed, has an uncanny resemblance to British Colonel MacKenzie. Williams, also a master of imitation and disguise, is asked to impersonate the Colonel, ostensibly to allow the Colonel to make a secret trip East. What Williams is not told is that the Colonel has recently been a target of assassins. After the Colonel’s plane goes down, the plan changes and Williams maintains the disguise to confuse the Nazis about D-Day.

  1. The magic of pre-CGI movies…..how did kaye manage to hit himself in the back, at about 14:00 minute? My favorite question when watching movies was always "how'd they do that"….

  2. Funny movie overall, but I just love Danny's Fraulein Lily act (at about 1 hour 17 minutes). "Ich mussen getten outta here!" Cracked me up.

  3. Thank you for this wonderful movie. I'm glad I got to watch this with my mother. This movie came out when my mom was young and I never imagined I would get to see it.

  5. This, of course, is an updated version of "The Prisoner Of Zenda". And readers of science fiction will recognize familiar plotting in Heinlein's classic "Double Star".

  6. what an amazing movie I can only imagine what it would've been like to have watched this when it was released with america and England just having gone through the war. Thank You for the upload

  7. What a wonderfully funny movie where the incomparable Danny Kaye gets to show the whole range of his genius. He is well supported by the rest of the cast but this film belongs to Danny Kaye.
