The Devil’s Hand (1961) THRILLER

Movie Class by PizzaFLIX: The most obscure item about this movie is its opening score by Baker Harris, released as single by Chess Records. Stars: Linda Christian, Robert Alda, Ariadne Welter
Director: William J. Hole Jr.

A man is haunted by visions of a beautiful woman, but when they finally meet he winds up involved in a razed cult! Watch for Neil Hamilton, best known as Police Commissioner Gordon in the 1966 TV series Batman. Dig the cool Surfabilly trash opening score by Baker Harris and the Knightmares!

The Rains Came 1939 Tyrone Power & Myrna Loy

The adventurous Lady Edwina Esketh travels to the princely state of Ranchipur in India with her husband, Lord Albert Esketh, who is there to purchase some of the Maharajah’s horses. She’s surprised to meet an old friend, Tom Ransome who came to Ranchipur seven years before to paint the Maharajah’s portrait and just stayed on. Ransome has developed something of a reputation – for womanizing and drinking too much – but that’s OK with Edwina who is bored and looking for fun. She soon meets the local doctor, the hard working and serious Major Rama Safti. He doesn’t immediately respond to her advances but when the seasonal rains come, disaster strikes when a dam fails, flooding much of the countryside. Disease soon sets in and everyone, including Ransome and Edwina, work at a non-stop pace to save as many as possible. Safti deeply admires Edwina’s sacrifice but fate intervenes.

The Flying Deuces | COLORIZED | LAUREL & HARDY | Classic Movie

The Flying Deuces – Ollie has fallen in love with the innkeeper’s daughter in Paris. The only problem – she’s very much in love with her husband. To forget her he joins the Foreign Legion with Stan. Bad idea.

The Flying Deuces (1939)
Director: A. Edward Sutherland
Writers: Ralph Spence(original story), Charley Rogers(original story), Fred Schiller(original story)
Stars: Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Jean Parker
Genre: Comedy, War
Country: USA
Language: English
Also Known As: Flying Aces
Release Date: 3 November 1939 (USA)
Duration: 68 min
Filming Location: General Service Studios – 1040 N. Las Palmas, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA

Storyline:
Oliver is heartbroken when he finds that Georgette, the inkeeper’s daughter he’s fallen in love with, is already married to dashing Foreign Legion officer Francois. To forget her, he joins the Legion, taking Stanley with him. Their bumbling eventually gets them charged with desertion and sentenced to a firing squad. They manage to escape in a stolen airplane, but crash after a wild ride.

Reviews:
“The only Laurel and Hardy movie I would unequivocally recommend.
That statement right above goes without saying that I haven’t seen too many of Laurel and Hardy’s films (I’ve also seen their Christmas nutcracker film, and one about making a movie or other, though the memory is now hazy for the most part on what I did or didn’t see as a tot). But this is not just a classic from the duo, but one of the funniest comedies I’ve ever seen. It’s refined slapstick, made up of facial gestures, anger, repetition, big life decisions like falling in love, suicide, joining the French foreign legion, and flying a plane without much control of a wheel. The director, Sutherland, also somehow crafts out the single funniest joke ever crafted around (as silly as it sounds) a mountain of laundry. It’s not a very complex storyline, as Hardy falls for a girl, can’t get her, feels down about it almost enough to jump into the river, but gets a word of advice right before it happens by a fellow traveler to join the foreign legion to forget about it. But they get in over their heads by joining, and want to quit, and soon become the biggest bumbling boobs to ever join up, leading to many chases, and that death-defying plane ride (or is it?)

It’s the kind of film that unless getting head-on into Laurel and Hardy’s distinctive and influential comedy timing will only really be of interest if passed on down as a child. It’s a great comedy though for all ages- if the term ‘family comedy’ might be a little too pat a description, but one that does have a central appeal as smart physical comedy- as it doesn’t pander to anyone, and even has a sincerity to it. I still remember most fondly the song and dance number Laurel and Hardy do in a moment of a jam (Shine on Harvest Moon, I think it was called), and the supporting character work is also a fine plus. And, quite frankly, one of those quintessential wacky end scenes that keeps me smiling, and laughing depending on who I’m talking with about it, where a certain horse with a mustache and hat appears saying “another fine mess you got me into.” A pick-me-up comedy of manners and pratfalls, it’ll always have a place in my collection not only for nostalgic reasons (it was one of the first videos I ever owned), but for its stamina so many years later.”-Written by Quinoa1984

Bonanza – The Honor of Cochise | Episode 69 | WESTERN TV SERIES | Cowboy

Bonanza – Episode 69 – The Honor of Cochise – The Cartwrights must try to get help for Adam, seriously wounded by an Apache bullet, and find out why Cochise and his warriors have threatened to kill them all if they don’t hand over an army captain taking refuge in their trail camp.

The Honor of Cochise
Director: Don McDougall
Writer: Elliott Arnold
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Genre: Western
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 8 October 1961 USA
Filming Locations: Paramount Studios – 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA

Storyline:
Jeff Morrow guest-stars as legendary Apache chief Cochise, who despite his avowed peaceful stance has sworn vengeance against Cavalry captain Moss Johnson (DeForrest Kelley). While Johnson takes refuge at the Ponderosa, Ben Cartwright, surrounded by a batallion of Cochise’s deadliest warriors, is determined to learn the true story behind the Apache leader’s vendetta. Fueling the crisis is a seriously injured Adam, and Johnson’s ever-increasing hysteria. Written on rottentomatoes.com

Reviews:
“What DeForest Kelley did to warrant the Apaches coming after him all the way to Nevada we’d call a war crime. during an alleged peace parley Kelley poisoned he food and drink and killed men, women, and children. Led by Cochise theyve chased him to the borders of the Ponderosa where Kelley seeks refuge with the Cartwrights before they find out what he’s done.

This episode belongs to Lorne Greene as he seeks a truce so that a wounded Pernell Roberts cawn get aid. He promises to see that Kelley is brought to justice. Will Cochise believe him?

Jeff Morrow plays Cochise and he pretty much follows in the footsteps of Jeff Chandler as the stoic and wise warrior chief.

It’s a good episode with kudos to Jeff Morrow.” Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

“This episode aired early in October 1961, the 3rd episode of the 3rd season. The Cartwrights run into a soldier (DeForest Kelly) on the run from a band of Indians led by Cochise (Jeff Morrow).

A note: By the start of the 3rd season, the Cartwrights had settled into their customary uniforms they wore throughout the duration of the series. Look for Bing Russell as a cavalryman who tries to defeat Cochise. Very shortly after this episode he assumed the role of Deputy Clem, which he kept until the show concluded in 1973.

This episode is particularly outstanding due to the performance of DeForest Kelly. You can see the sweat, grime, dirt, fear, evil, confusion, & stubbornness of his character as he defends his actions. It’s a performance that deserves repeat viewings. When he keeps repeating “But I was only following orders” you kinda feel a little sympathy for him.

Jeff Morrow, who made a lot of westerns in the 1950s, brings a quiet dignity & honor in his portrayal of Cochise. Even though he’s not an Indian, his performance works.

Finally, this episode deals with history in that the U.S. Cavalry sometimes had to use any means necessary in their battles with the American Indians. This episode also makes the viewer think about what is wrong & right during war. I wholly recommend it.” Written by jeremylr on IMDb.com

Reviews:
“I just couldn’t resist.

The fundamental problem with TV stories about American/aboriginal relationships is that they fail to address the fact the American government waged a war of genocide. And regardless of good will (on either side), there was a fundamental economic conflict that ultimately doomed the aboriginals to defeat.

“The Deserter” is only slightly better than average. The chief eventually recognizes that killing the officer who murdered the women and children of his tribe can only bring more tsuris. But the profound distrust and “acidity” of feeling that should remain after his acquiescence is not present. Ultimately, this is yet another “White viewer, you needn’t feel too guilty” stories.

Claude Akins gives a pretty good performance. He has scenes were he has to show some subtlety of emotion — which he was rarely called on to deliver — and is creditable.” Written by grizzledgeezer on IMDb.com

“Claude Akins with gray hair and a mustache plays an iron colonel who is looking for an army deserter from a battle he was in command of against the Shoshone Indians over a decade ago. It was no battle really, Akins led a raid against a village where Shoshone women and children were massacred. And as it turns out the deserter is a neighbor of the Cartwrights and his own son.

The only thing that made sense about this episode was the determination of the Shoshone to see him die slow. Everything else about this Bonanza episode was totally preposterous. Akins finds his son who has married a Shoshone woman and he now has grandchildren.

Lorne Greene gets Shoshone chief Anthony Caruso to reason together with Akins. It all works out, everyone does the noble and right thing.

I think there’s no way that Akins would have left the territory alive. But you’ll have to see for yourself if you care.” Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com
